None of the loads in the AA manual use a magnum primer. The loads listed for a 150 grain Hornady SP start at 40.5 and max at 45 grains using Remington cases and CCI200 primers. 2460 is a fairly fast powder for the 308 but is economical for moderate loadings. When you deviate from the published data you are on your own. The difference in primers might be insignificant or could cause problems.

AA2460 is a bit fast, you would be better served with AA-2520...
I burn a lot of AA powders and do not use any Magnum primers...

The Speer reloading manual uses magnum primers for AA2460 as well as other ball powders.
If you have magnums you can certainly use them safely in 308 by following the suggested load data but if you have LR I would say don't bother getting magnum as I have not found any advantage is using them (other than a little less powder required to achieve same velocity)

2460 is fine in 308 but I agree 2520 is better.
However, if I was loading 223 and 308 with one powder then I would go 2460 as it is similar to BL-C2. 2520 can cause slam fires in 223 if loaded slightly too hot ( I can attest to it big time with an entire magazine!!![:D]

Wulfmann, don't you mean cookoff? Never heard of powder causing slamfires. Mabe too soft of primers [?][?]
