Marlin .444
I recently p/u a Mod. 94 in .444 and although it's a little more than needed for deer, it's what I'll be using it for , in addition to plate and paper target shooting. Can any of you .444 guys out there recommend a good starting point for bullet weights and powder charges that will suffice for whitetails and not kill from both ends on targets? Incidentally, I'm a peep sight shooter so extreme range is not a factor.

You can do a bit of downloading with the 444 to reduce your recoil and still have plenty of power to kill game at hunting ranges, Hodgdon.com is a great reloding site that will give you several great loads for your rifle, one that I found would be ideal for youe stiuation:
Bullet: 225 GR. BAR XFB
Powder: H335
Bulett dia: .429"
COL: 2.550"
Grains: 49.0
Velocity: 1891
Pressure: 25,500 CUP
Or for a bit more power step it up to:
Grains: 52.0
Velocity: 2031
Pressure: 34,500 CUP0 -
I appreciate the head start Mk. 0
