I like to have at least 10 boxes of brass for every gun. My 2 8's respone very well to hard cast lead bullets. The lyman 323470 is a good bullet. It has taken deer. The last 200 rem ones I got were not a nice as the ww superspeed stuff from long ago. The reformed match FA49 I had wore out after only 40 or so times.

I didn't shoot my first one.. It's sitting on my work bench with a 1 on it. It've loaded bunches since then though. Sure saves a ton of money. I'm loading 38 spec for 3 of us to use cowboy action shooting. That's over 350 a match, times 2 or 3 matches a month. Plus practice.
    Enjoy...

Mine is going to be the first one I shoot. Today I loaded up another 9 to give me an even 10. That will probably be about all my shoulder will take. I don't shoot nearly as much as most people on the forum and when I do it's mostly my garand. Although this summer I'm going to do good bit of practice as I'm planning on going deer hunting the first time this fall. Planning on taking the garand for that and using a 150 grain bronze point. Can't wait!!

    flyingtorpedo,

Congratulations! I'll bet you can't wait to get back and load some more after you shoot your first ten off. As noted it will become quite the habit once you start getting into it more. -good luck

Thank you sandwarrior! I can't wait to go shoot them but it won't be real soon. It's cold, windy, and all around unpleasant outside and looks to be that way for the next week. [xx(][xx(][V] I already can't wait to load more either. These were loaded on unfired brass. I only have a few pieces of once fired so I loading the first few on new brass so I can have 20 or 30 pieces that have been fired the same number of times.

Have fun! I love loading ammo, and the 8mm is one of my favorites.

I would guess that will be moving at around 1800 feet per second- very mild indeed. I'd also bet your shot to shot consistency won't be that great- the powder MAY be too slow, depending on your primer, to completely burn given that load amount. I hit my best consistency (Standard Deviation) with about 42 gr of 4064 and up.

Thanks Jonk, I plan on having fun with it. This weekend looks like I might have one decent day to go play. Good guess, book says 1910 fps, but I know that probably won't be the case. I have a feeling that I'll love the 8mm with my own loads. After I load a few more rounds I'll probably start slowly working my way up to give it a bit more zip. I'm curious to see what it can do with JS ammo, as I've never shot any of that. I'm just glad I got a few boxes of bullets before the new year and I'm already wishing I'd bought more. I have a feeling they may not last as long as I thought. [;)]

    flyingtorpedo,

I just want to warn you that it can get so addictive to reload that you find yourself braving the sub-zero's of Minnesota winters 'just to see how the powder shoots in the cold.'

I went out a few times last week when it was sub-zero. The coldest was -18 when I got there to warming up to -8....made it all the way to -3 that day.

Today was a far different story. 40 deg. and a little breezy. Hard to call wind for the TCU @300. But I was out there and not having to hide my hands from the cold and butt stinging from sitting on the bench. Jacket unzipped and still not cold. It was nice.

    Thanks deadeye46!

    Sandwarrior,

Maybe you should change your name to icewarrior! That's too cold for me. What was the windchill, -30? When your butt or any other body part is stinging and/or getting numb it's time to go inside.

Didn't make it for any fun this weekend. Ended up helping a buddy move. He's a good guy so it wouldn't have felt right going to play knowing he could have used my help. Oh well, there is always this weekend.

    ..you got beer, right???[:D][8D][:D]

Nope, no beer. It's a rare day when I have a drink. Lots of alcholics on both sides of the family so I decided early on that I wasn't going to be one so I don't drink much. It's been almost 2 years since my last drink. I'm not a "normal" guy either, never aquired the taste for beer. I admit, I have to have a girly drink when I do have one. Besides, I'm cheap too so not drinking has its other advantages. I don't expect anything, except a thank you, for helping a friend move but if he brings it up a time or two more then I guess I'll have to let him buy me a box of bullets or pay the hazmat when I order some more powder. I did get my Midway flyer today. I'm sure I can find something in there too! [:D]

    flyingtorpedo,

I have to say, I like those alternatives. You're certainly getting a lot more value out of him.[:D][:D]
