One question...you say 32 S&W...do you mean the roigianl 32 S&W or the 32 S&W Long? I can help on either but I need to know which and what are you going to shoot it in? Some of the older guns are not safe. Have you had it checked out? 0 -
I AM LOADING THE SW SHORT FOR A OLD SMITH WESSON HAMMERLESS TOP BREAK. And I am loading sw long for a Smith wesson hand ejector. 0 -
Hi Peddler...the first thing you need to do is have your guns checked out to make sure they are safe to shoot. Then I would first shoot some factory ammo...32swl is easy not sure about the 32sw.
Hnadloads would be the last thing to try. These are max loads in breaktops in good condition. Some handloads for the the reloading handbook show 1.1 grns of bullseye behind a 77 gr RN lead bullet...1.6 grns of unique same bullet...1.5 grns of 231 same bullet.
32swl same bullet unique 2.5 grns and 231 2.0 grns.0 -
I'm going to mention something here which may seem to some as common sense but....this is something I have seen happen several times recently from some pretty knowledgeable people who were loading the old S&W 32's...In each case they had a mild load but then decided to give a full wadcutter a try...seating it flush with the case with the same load....know what happened?...yep...bulged barrels and cylinders but thankfully one didn't come apart 0 -
shooter93 is right...it goes almost without saying..the loads listed are for a certain bullet weight and style...change weight or style and you will almost always get into trouble real quick. 0 -
For the regular .32 (not the long) 1.5 gr of Red dot and an 85 gr cast lead bullet work for me. However, I often load the top breaks with black powder. Normally I'd say to settle black powder but in such a small case it is kind of academic. Just set the cases upright in a container, pour the powder over them to fill, brush level with a business card, lightly compress with the bullet, about 10-15%. Voila. Then return the overflow to the container. I use FFFG in anything that small or FFG in large cases. Do note though that you should use a non-petroleum base lube for black powder bullets. 1/2 each beeswax and crisco is a good one. 0
