I followed the good advice on my question about the Federal NT 45 ACP cases and loaded some rounds. They all worked well. Just as a follow-up, I heard from Hornady and the advisor there said Federal uses their own 200 primers which are small magnum pistol primers for that loading. What is the advantage of magnum primers? I have read in manuals that some cartridges like 243 require magnum rifle primers.

Most magnums use slower burning powders, they need the hotter magnum primers to get the burn started and keep it going.
take a look at the power that is used in that particular 243 load and then look it up on a powder burn chart. I'll bet that the powder is closer to the slow end of the chart when compared to a powder/load that doesn't call for the mag. primer0
