.480 Ruger field report
I have been loading 325 grain Speer bullets with 25 g. of H110 for my Super Redhawk. The gun has a Millet red dot sight. After harvesting a small buck with a muzzleloader, I wanted to see if I could get a deer with the SRH. I went to my ladder stand last Wed. with about 1 hour of shooting light left. Within 20 minutes, 5 does came out of the brush walking straight for me. I put the red dot on the bigest one's chest and pulled the trigger when she was 15 yards out and turned sideways. She ran about 30 yds. and piled up. Hit her in the heart. The heart was like jelly and there was no exit wound,but I couldn't find the spent bullet in all that mess. I know most any other big bore pistol would have done the same thing, but it was a lot of fun harvesting game with a revolver and bullets I reloaded myself. I may have a couple of deer rifles for sale soon because I think I'm hooked on handgun hunting.
