Plastic coating on ammo??

Is there a plastic coating on 5.7x28 brass? There is something there, it can we cleaned off with a little effort. If I am shooting the brass in a bolt action, why do I want it there?

    It might be some sort of laquer coating if it is foreign made. Is it steel case, they use it on them to keep it from rusting. Does it come off easy?

    No it does not come off easy. And the case isn't steel it is clearly brass.

    I have two different types of 5.7x28 ammo and I haven't noticed the coating. I have SS195LF and SS197SR. You have raised my curiosity though. How did you notice this coating?
