    Alaskan Guide,

    Typically, one starts with the max of the parent case when loading Ackleys and works up. This is a site with some verified and unverified loads with which to work with: http://www.reloadersnest.com/frontpage.asp?CaliberID=293

    As far as Ackley dies here is the place I go to:

    www.gunstop.com item # 80422. He has them in stock last I checked. they are a Redding die and are very good quality.

    with my ackleys, I start mid range of the parent data, and work up from there. A word of caution,..Ackleys don't like to show pressure signs like the parent case. They will quite often not show any pressure signs, even when you toast the primer pockets on one firing,..BTDT[V] So use a chronograph to tell when you are running at the top end.[;)]

    My apologies for not saying that if you haven't reloaded for any Ackleys before.[B)] JustC is right on that about how they don't show pressure signs like the parent case. We've all talked about that before and I just didn't take the subject far enough to mention it. When I work up an Ackley cartridge with a powder that isn't listed for it I have always started at the max for the parent case but work up slower than I do any other cases.

    In this particular case JustC is correct again to say start at the midrange because the 25-06 (parent case)is typically showing loads going very high with its load pressures. Other Ackley parent cases usually have some reason for the parent case pressures being held a little lower, i.e. a lot of them were built on an old Mauser or other action not made for high pressures. So again, new and better habit to form if you haven't loaded these before is to start midrange.[:)]
