I believe TAP bullets are of the frangible type and are not available to us. (yet)[;)]

You are using a M1A SOCOM for home defense?!?![:0] To each his own I guess.

As far as making an approximatation of the Hornady TAP, you could use the 110 grain V-Max with 48 grains of Varget, 47.8 grains of Benchmark, 49 grains of IMR-4320, 48.6 grains of H335, or 48 grains of IMR-4064. Any of those should get you close to the advertised velocity of the Hornady TAP ammo.

Please let me re-phrase "home defense" to property/home/family/business/etc. defense. There are possible instances when a handgun is insufficient. Remember those vivid images after Katrina and the LA riots. For me peace of mind is a rifle that most family members could handle if needed (hopefully never).
Remember the police have a duty to protect the public, not the individual.
Thanks for the load data info.

The TAP Ammo uses the hornady A-Max bullet, Note it will not cycle in an M1A/or scout very well or at all. The tip is to soft, from my own experience.

I keep that ammo strictly to my bolt guns.

    glockmatt,

There are frangible bullets available to the public:

    http://www.frangiblebullets.com/specs/index.html

    http://www.sinterfire.com/

    http://www.accutecusa.com/specs.htm

Reloading suggestions are on the respective sites.

    Best.
