LIVING HERE IN THE EAST AND HUNTING WHITETAIL DEER ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY, I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE 257 WEATHERBY CARTRIDGE IS AN AWESOME CALIBER. ONE SHOT KILLS ARE THE NORM. IF I LIVED IN THE WESTERN STATES AND HAD THE OPPORTUNITY FOR LARGER MULE DEER AND ELK, THE CARTRIDGE WOULD BE THE SAME. HAVING A NICELY TUNED-UP 257 WEATHERBY IS PLENTY OF CARTRIDGE.

    Hey BK,

I've owned model 70's, model 77's, model 116's, Thompson Center Encore's, Mark X Mausers, and 700's. I've just had the best luck with 700s. So I guess I love them because they perform.

They are not the prettiest nor do they have all the features I like (my eyes love model 77's the best) but they shoot.

I've fired Ed Hubel's "12ga From Hell" (see thread on this forum) and I'd have to say that it rates right up there at the top of the "fun" to shoot pile.

Last year I purchased a Ruger M77 in 204. I shoot the 40 grain Hornady. I put a 6x18x50 scope on top and its the best shooting gun I've ever owned. I shoot 300 to 350 yards at clay pigeons. No kick whatsoever. You can keep your line of sight and watch the target being hit. I do wish I would have gotten the heavy barrel. I also like my 760 in 30-06. The little 55 grain accelerators are alot of fun if you can find them.
