Hello blc2 was a very well liked powder in the early 60's and later it commanded high prices for the bench -rest guys were willing to pay big bucks for it "I don't know if this is still the case" My older speer manual starts with a note to use magnum primers with blc-2 and a 50 grain bullet starting load 24.5 grains for 3180 FPS MAX load of 26.5 grains for 3363 FPS as always I would get these loads confirmed from another source and accept no responsibility that they are safe.

Hodgdon shows 28 grns as max at a little over 3400 fps.,starting load,26 grns at just shy of 3200 fps. It's a good powder for the .223 in my opinion.

    csjs1194,

As a ball powder, reloaders could get a higher load density and better performance as opposed to using the log-like stick powders that were prominent during the same period. BLC-2 has fallen from favor in the general market due to the influx of newer and better designed powders.

It is better suited for use in cartridge cases with more capacity than the .233 Remington. It is slightly slower than what you need for the small cases and you can't really get enough in the case to create an efficient, clean burning load. The coatings leave some significant fouling in the barrel even when the load is correctly balanced. Magnum primers are the mainstay for igniting many of the ball powders and BLC-2 is no different.

It's a good powder, not a great powder but it will perform better in a larger case.

    Best.

BLC(2) can be had as a military surplus powder as well. Either WCC846 or WC846 depending on where you get it. I don't load it for .223 as I like H335 better but I do load it for plinking 308 and it does well in 30-30.
