To buy or reload .223

    HuntinMedic,

I reload. The difference for me is the degree of accuracy I can gain from reloading. If accuracy is not your issue with .223 then it can be just about as cost effective especially if you consider your time into the equation. I do not consider my time as a 'cost' therefore it is more economical and rewarding for me to reload .223 out of an AR. I also reload for my bolt gun that is definitely better than off the shelf.

Well I love reloading, not really looking for accuracy asspect. Right now its just a toy maybe later I'll try the competition thing with it. But I'm looking for big volumes of ammo right now...LOL
But I was thinking I may be able to purchase (a friend and myself) about 10,000 rounds of surplus somewhere. Just not sure where to start.

PS, I ONLY use reloads for my 7MM mag and when I get bras I reload my 5.7

Sportsmans guide has remanufactured 223 from ultramax they have 1000 rounds with 50gr TNT bullets for $319 and they have 500 federal for $155. I have bought some of the ulta max it shoots decent in my rossi single shot I reload for my bolt gun.

    HuntinMedic,

I haven't looked at Brass man. That's one place to start. Also, Aim surplus, Midway carries bulk but not always cheaply, Graf's and sons, Wideners, Keep searching there are a bunch of importers. It never hurts to get it while it's still around too. With the jump in bullet prices and powder prices the jump in surplus is coming too.

TopBrass sells once-fired lake city 5.56 casings. They are fully processed (cleaned, deprimed, trimmed, etc.). I bought a 1000 pc. bag of them and they are very nice... you'll get a few with wrinkles/dents, but for the price its a very good deal. And you get free shipping too.

    Heres a link: http://secure.cartsvr.net/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=2317386&showprevnext=1

    Also they sell bullets:

This might be a cheaper avenue than buying new manufactured ammo.

Top Brass does have good brass. I don't buy my .223 brass from them becasue they REAM their primer pockets and I prefer SWAGED. Great company though. River Valley Ordnance used to be great I would buy 5000 at a time from them they swaged LC brass but the husband (Tom)passed away and Nikki was trying to get up ad going again they were out of brass for a couple of years. They may be back up now. www.rvow.com
