280 ackley load with 162 amax?

Any of you guys want to share a good load for a 280 ackley? We tried 54gr H4831 and didnt get good results downrange

You are significantly under pressured with this load which could be part of the problem. I would skip the H-4831 or really start testing with more powder. My suggestion would be to use Re-19 and enjoy!

Thanks for the info Nononsense. We will try increasing powder charge untill we see pressure signs or get the results we want. If not we will change to Re-19. What do you think of Imr 7828 or vvh 165?

Both will work but they require a full case or nearly so. The V V N-165 will not yield as much velocity as the other powders but it burns relatively clean.

mine loves RL22 and H4831sc. You need more powder in your 4831 load.

ditto to nononsense about clean burning,..I like the VV powders just for that.

Hey guys,
We worked our way up with the H4831 to 64 gr and got lots better results out to 700 yards. What do you guys think is the right grain bullet for out to 1000? The 162 or smaller?
