375 H&H with Barnes bullets

    Hi 375H&H,
    Which kind of X-Bullet?
    I'm looking in the Barnes #3 Manual and they only list data for the 235gr plain solid and the 235gr XLC (blue coated) bullet.
    There is no data for the plain older type (non-coated, non-triple shock) X-Bullet.
    The plain solid bullet data is probably the same as it should be a copper solid, but be careful and work up slow.
    The XLC coated bullet is always hotter than the plain bullet data due to the pressure reducing coating.

    Barnes #3 Reloading Manual:
    375 H&H Magnum
    Winchester Case (trim to 2.84")
    CCI 250 Primer
    24" Barrel

    235gr Barnes Solid
    IMR4064 Powder:
    Starting load = 69.0gr for 2725 fps
    Maximum load = 74.0gr for 2922 fps

    235gr Barnes XLC (blue coated) Bullet
    IMR4064 Powder:
    Starting Load = 71.0gr for 2800 fps
    Maximum load = 76.0gr for 2997 fps
    *NOTE* = XLC loading data should not be used with the plain non-coated bullets ** as excessive pressure may be experienced.

    The box just says 235 gr X cannelured , the order # or parts # is
    37580 . It's not the XLC bullet , I tried them ( XLC ) in my
    7mm mag , and it seemed when you were seating the bullet the "Blue Lube " would scrape off [B)]
    I also noticed that Speer's loading data for their 235 gr Hot-core
    starts out at 73gr @ 2800 fps with a max charge of77 gr @ 2970 fps .
    using IMR-4064 [B)] Their test rifle was a 24" Rem 700 .
    Maybe the longer bearing surface of the X bullet dictates a lower
    powder charge because of higher pressures ???

    Thats why I wanted to know what Barnes had to say [:o)]

    No data for that bullet in the book #3, and I don't think they have put out another book since then, but I could be wrong. The data for the solid should be OK. You might try the Barnes website if you think you need more info -- There may be something more there.
    All of the copper Barnes bullets are longer as you noted, and they will build pressure quickly. They recommend starting with them seated .05" off the lands and working in closer watching for pressure.
