Any recommendation for good ammo for a marlin 1895gs 45-70.

  The Remington factory ammo is good stuff. It will drop any North American deer in its tracks with one shot. Plus, the recoil is manageable.

  If you reload, try 50 grains of IMR3031 pushing a 300 grain HP. Excellent load.

  thanks for the info. i was debating between remmington ammo and the hornady lever revolution. i was also looking for a good ammo for bear protection while camping. i am station in sitka, ak

  My 1895 GG really likes the Garrett 420+P ammo, ain't cheap but it really packs wallop, only used on moose and elk so far but I wouldn't be a bit worried about using it on a brownie/black.
