Once fired brass
I am new to reloading..so new i have not reloaded a single bullet yet! My question is about once fired brass. I have read the abc's of reloading as suggested by this forum and i am currently reading lymans 49th. Lymans 49th states to never use once fired brass from an unknown source(page 47)? I would like some opinions on this as it seems only once fired brass is available at the present time? Thanks for your time.

I recently aquired some once fired brass in 257 wtrby mag and full lenghth resized but it will not chamber in my rifle.I did not trim brass so maybe this is the problem.However it chambers fine in a different rifle I own so it has puzzled me.Both are vanguards,one being a back country and the other a standard vanguard.The back country will not chamber the full lenghth resized brass.Any suggestions? 0 -
No I haven't as the only brass I was in the market for was .223. They sell Reamed primer pockets and I like swaged. Prices aren't bad but with the shipping added I have dones much better from Scharch "Top Brass" I have bought alot of 1 fired pistol brass from them. I did a couple times a couple years ago.It worked fine for me.If you buy bulk brass it's reasonably priced enough to buy new though.Just my two cents,Bob 0 -
Its alot cheaper to by ammo from Sportsmans Warehouse, for my .40 cal pistal.I don't like ammo that can't give me a good pattern.My reloads give me a very good pattern.By saying I get a good pattern, I mean that three shoots taken will be close to touching each other, and in the bulls eye.
My son and everyone else I talk to can find Remington or some other brand name brand ammo for fifteen bucks per hundred.So I'm trying to reload for at least .15 cents a round.So far the cheapest I can reload for is .19 cents a round.
If I can get a good deal on brass, powder, and primers , I could reload for .12 cents a round.I've got to get the powder and primmers in town, to skip paying the hazmat fee. So the only way to save money is to get some good deals on brass and bullets.0 -
You might check with your local gun range. Most sell it and some even give it away. My local range sells sorted pistol brass for $10 per 1000.

I ordered from MidWay for over 15 years, Stoped useing them a year ago. Way to many things on back order. have switched to Mid South, They have what they adv. and their shipping and HANDELING Prices are cheaper. 0 -

Brass has got to work out to a penny a round. You either get it cheap or use it a lot. I like to get it for free and use it a lot[:)]. Bullets are free too. Free lead and I cast them myself, OK I have to buy the lube. So loaded rounds are $0.04 each. I did buy a box of bullets today, Speer Gold Dot 9mm 115 grain JHP's almost $0.20 each. Hunting, serious target and self defence ammo are a different story. After adding the costs of load development to the actual cost of the useable ammo I end up maybe even more expensive than premium ammo.
