Don't forget to work the loads from the bottom!
I recently purchased a NEF in 204 Ruger, of course with dies, brass, etc.
The NEF has a 22" barrel...so I was not expecting high velocity, but, chrono everything that I reload so that I know where the load is at. Also read quite a bit of printed info and info off of the web, I knew this rifle would not throw the lead that fast out of this short of barrel.....but...
Using H4895 & 32 Grain Hornady VMax's, started at 27.1 grains, working up 0.1 grains at a time, I was just over 4000 FPS at 27.9 grains...and just barely cupping primers. I stopped there.
Obviously, if somebody would have started in the middle, it could have gotten ugly quick.
