That weight is a bit much for normal deer sized critters but it sure will put em down.
3031 is the powder for the 30/30.......

    RE-15 worked pretty well too.

The bullets made for the 30-30 are designed to expand at the modest velocity we get from the round.

The 150-170 grain bullets made for the 30-30 might be a better choice for game.

RCBS #30-180-FN cast bullet for my 30-30. I use 28.0 gr. of W-748 in just about any brand brass, velocity is 1950 FPS from a 20" bareled carbine and 2000 FPS from a 26" barreled rifle. I've taken two deer with that load.
With 30.0 gr. of the same powder using a 175 gr. Lyman #311291 I get an easy 2000 FPS from my carbine. That used to be my deer load and has 15 deer to it's credit.
In looking at the RCBS cast bullet handbook
    (IMR-3031 start 26.0 gr. 1816 FPS Max 28.0 gr. 1972 FPS
    #2400 16.0 gr. 1756 FPS 18.0 gr. 1886 FPS
    H-110 13.0 gr. 1478 FPS 15.0 gr. 1633 FPS

    Thanks guys, I'm just experimenting.
My main deer rifle is a Marlin 444s
    but I bought the 30-30 for a $100
and as I said I'm just experiencing.
