rate of twist
Best rate of twist for .024 Ruger? Looking at bullets of 45 gr and up, 1:9 or 1:12 twist?

What is the maximum bullet weight that I could shoot through my .223 with a 1 in 9" twist
Thanks0 -
Probably in the 70 grain range. I doubt the 75 or 80 gr. would stabilize well but you never know. I shoot those in an eight gain twist and I'm not sure if that isn't minimun. 0 -
Interesting...I am shooting a 1:9 twist 223 as well.
Hates 68 grain Hornady. Loves 69 gr HPBT's (less than 3/4" TEN shot group at 100 yards!!!).
At the range tonight, was spot on, at 200 yards, with Hornady 53 gr Match HP's.0 -
There are exceptions due to things like velocity due to the length of the bbl., length of the particular bullets bearing suface, and sometimes a particular bbl. will shoot a different weight bullet better than another with the same twist, etc.
A pretty good rule of thumb for a 1-9" twist 223 is a maximum bullet weight of around 69 grs.
Good Luck......................[^]0 -
mine is a Savage 12, I'am currently shooting 52gr. hollow point boat tails, and was wanting to try the 69gr. of Sierra's 0
