Berdan primed?
What is "berdan primed"? Is the primer inserted through the neck of the case, instead of up the butt? I see its mostly on non-reloadable steel case ammo.

Hello there are 2 types of primers BOXER & BERDAN the boxer has 3 parts Cup /primeing compound/anvil. A berdam primer has 2 Cup/primeing compound . The primer works by crushing the primeing compound between the cup and anvil . On boxer primers the fireing pin hits the cup and the anvil is supported by the fact the primer is seated in the primer pocket of the case . on a berdam primer the case has the anvil as part of the case and the fireing pin again crushes the cup into the anvil however the flash hole on a boxer case is one hole in the center of the head of the case and a decapping pin can remove the spent primer. on berdan cases there primers there are 2 small flash holes and no way to push the spent primers out with a decapping pin. The berdam cases can be reloaded with berdan primers but is time consumeing to get the old primer out. 0 -

Lots more information and descriptions are available by using a search engine. There are a couple of lengthy articles that detail out the process of priming with and de-priming the Berdan primers.
