h-110&win.296 the same?

i have heard that these 2 powders are the same.is this fact?thanks

  As close as they seem to be over a cronograph, I think they might just come out of the same
  keg, and I have also heard that they are the same.
  One shoots as good as the other in my Casull.

  I have heard and read warinings about using to litte of H110 causing dangerous pressure. I have not read this about 296 but I don't use it either.

  The Winchester Manual has the "do not reduce loads" warning for W296. I think that this is parallel engineering. Not really the same powder but designed for the same requirement so we end up with very very similar products. I think the general rule applies. If you change anything in a load, hold up and consult a loading manual. With these powders the recommended range of loads is narrow. A quick look at my data indicates that the max. load of W296 is always less than H110. Be careful. Reloading is not for the reckless.

  They come off the same production line in St Marks, Florida.
  Hodgdon may have slightly different specifications than Winchester so it is safest to use load data by the brand you have.

  Are you in the powder biz? Do you know who runs the factory in St. Marks? Is there more incest with Hodgdon and Winchester in the powder world?

  I am not hawk, but yes, many former or current hodgdon and winchester powders are the same. HS-6 is win 540, HS-7 was I believe win 571. I bought a 70# drum of win 231 last fall that had a 231 sticker over a HP-38 lable.

  I am not in the powder business but I do follow the news.
  
  The Ball powder mill in St Marks Fla. is now owned by General Dynamics. It was built by Olin/Winchester, I THINK it was operated as an independent company for a while, then bought out by Gendye.
  Winchester Ball powder, Hodgdon Spherical powder, and a couple of the Ramshot powders are made there.
  
  Hodgdon is now the national distributor for Winchester brand powders and also owns IMR Powder, Inc. of New York. IMR powder is still manufactured in Canada as it has been since DuPont gave up on it about 1976; Hodgdon doesn't own the plant, just the US distributor.
