700X powder
Is this a dirty burning powder? I'm looking at buying a used S&W in .357 mag, the guy who owns it has been reloading his .38 special rounds with this powder and after shooting the gun a little it has alot of powder fouling on it. What would be a cleaner burning powder I could switch to if I make this purchase? Thanks guys.

For 38 Special target/plinking loads Hodgdon Clays burns clean or Winchester 231 is pretty good............... 0 -
Hello IMHO the lighter the load on any powder the dirtier it will burn so my suggestion is either use a heavier charge or switch to Clays or other faster Ball type powders. Vitivori powders are very clean but cost $$$$ 0 -
something else to think about, the "dirty" part of almost any powder is either carbon or graphite (another form of carbon). this acts as a lubricant, especialy in a lead bullet pistol round. If you go to a 'cleaner' powder you may get a leading problem. 0 -
Thanks for the ideas. I never thought about the carbon/graphite issue and these are lead practice rounds so that is a very good thought. Thanks again. 0
