What accessory for a new reloader?
I yoosta reload with a pair of "Rock Chuckers". We (my 4 sons and I) lost all of our equipment and most of our guns in hurricane Katrina. We have gathered up a few guns here lately.
One of my sons has purchased a Lee 1000 press with .45acp dies. I haven't read the details on how this reloader operates yet. So, if all you had was a Lee 1000 set-up, what acessory would you buy next? I'm gonna spend about $150.00 on this as one of his Christmas presents. What is he going to need first????

First a reloading manual/manuals, don't depend on memory. Then a good scale and a hand priming tool. After that a case trimmer,neck brushes, powder measure and dial caliper.

You can save the money at first on a manuel by getting the info on loading off the net....http://www.imrpowder.com is one site to start . This will get you info on the case size and starting powder charges. (although all reloaders should have at least one manual).
Lube(if needed) scale, method to measure cases (to the .00 of an inch), priming tool and a brush to clean the primer pocket. I am not sure what the kit comes with but these are some of the basics.

I did buy Lyman's and Sierra's manuals before we bought the first gun. We (my 4 sons and I) decided to buy most of our new stuff in .44 caliber. Between the 5 of us we bought a Marlin lever gun in .44 mag, a Taurus Raging Bull in .44mag, and little Charter Bulldog Pug in .44 special. Today at the gun show, my daughter-in-law bought a pretty rough 25-06 for my oldest son for Christmas. We were carrying our .45ACP 1911s when we fled from the storm thereby saving 'em.
Hey Joes, what a kind offer! We would really be interested in buying some used stuff. You see, our homeowners insurance has already told us that they will only pay for losses that are ABOVE the water line. Well, the water line is 3 1/2 feet up in our attic. So, any money we can save on USED stuff would be great!
That strange noise you hear in the background is a little-ole-dudette kinda hissing/growling because guns are being purchased before a new bedroom set.
I bought my son a RCBS digital scale today at the gun show. We would be glad to buy calipers, any case prep stuff, lube pad, brass, priming tool, etc....

Hi Bigoledude - I just wanted to say its good to have another Louisiana boy posting here on the forums. I'm sorry to hear about the terrible lossed your family suffered in that storm. I've got and aunt and uncle in Slidell, and seems they got off light compared to what happend in Chalmette.

My wife and I were part of a church group that went to New Orleans in April as part of an effort to replace the supplies from a disaster relief center located on Bayou Teche. The stocks were down, having been sent to the Tsumani victims. We didn't know the items we were putting into stock would be used right down the road. Sorry to hear about your loss.
