Black powder history tour
For those interested in historical munitions tours, I recommend visiting the now restored Dupont gunpowder works along Brandywine Creek in SE PA. It's a fascinating tour. I was there several years ago.
They have the museum building and the restored manufacturing step buildings, each powdered by water from a diversion of the creek. It shows the secret Dupont (French) techniques that made a superior powder (e.g. using willow charcoal). The many safety ideas are also shown such as a wooden track/wheeled rail carts to prevent sparks, in carrying the powder between steps. It's a great tour. You can bribe the wife by also visiting several of the Dupont estates in the area now open to the public.
To get there, go to DE on I95. In downtown Wilmington, exit and head west for five miles or so.
