I've not been reloading very long and have been using powder available at Walmart - IMR4064 or 4350. I've never actually shot my reloads to see what types of groups Im getting. Just general plinking.

I reload for .243, .30-30, .308, and .30-06 currently. As well as some pistols but I've got that down good.

I'm going to soon make a large order of powder and primers. I plan to purchase several different types of powder. Probably at least 9 or 10 different. Name any and all powders that work WELL in the calibers I listed. I want to find out what my guns shoot best but I need a place to start.

    generally how many rounds will you load from 1 lb of powder in 223 and 308?

    I am working on a 308 myself and Varget and RE15 is working out GREAT for me. Giving me consistant sub MOA groups. What bullets are you using?

    many recommend the 4381, but the 4350 seems to work better for my needs [:D]

    4895 is so unpopular that it's hard to find for sale. Maybe that's why I like it so much. [;)]

    In .308 I've loaded with the 180gr Partition, 180gr Ballistic Tip, 125gr Ballistic Tip, 165gr Hornady SST, and 165gr Hornady Interlock (an interbonded version of the SST).

    The Interlock is my current deer load, over 40.4gr of 4895...the seating depth I have written down elsewhere. That's for my model 70 Classic Featherweight. I plan on making a load with the Partition and possibly one with the 125gr Ballistic Tip at some point. The SST is an accurate bullet, but unless there is a larger amount of powder that gets it as accurate as the 40.4gr load does, I have to fly the bullet too slow for my tastes, coming out of the muzzle at about 2400fps.

    Z....All rifles are like people...they each have their
    own preferred diet. What shoots well in my rifle might be
    lousy in yours and vice-versa.

    Experiment a little...that's what makes reloading fun anyway!

    I like 4895 for semi-autos such as M1A 308. That was the powder that the military used in their ammo. I use a lot of different powders for various application. I use 4831 for magnums such as 7mm magnum and my 375 H&H. 3031 is good for 30-30 rifle.

    Anyone know of a good web site that has powder comparisons, considering stick vs. ball and burn rate, etc?

    In .223, I've used 4198 for years. I once had a Mini 14 that wanted nothing but a compressed load of 3031. My mod 70 hates the stuff.

    The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

    I have had super results with Reloder 15 in my .308. Other solid performers are Varget and W748.

    Hornady Interlocks have proven a most effective Whitetail medicine. Pet load is 150gr. BTSP (#3033) over 44.5 grains of R15 using CCI BR primers and Federal GM Match cases. Bullets are .020 off the lands thanks to the Stoney Point.

    Love H-4895 in .308 but H-335 is tough to beat in .223

    My .338 win mag likes about 76gr of RE19 with 225gr Hornaday. I'm working on some loads with H4831SC now, test results to follow as soon as it warms up a bit.

    I really need to try out some different powders as well the old 4895 IMR is what I have always used for 308 and 223. My Smith and WEsson long guns liked those. But my weatherby seems to say it is okay, but not perfect.
