Depending upon how much of a purist you wish to be, you can also try replacing the original frizzen with a hardened one and, maybe it's just personal preference, but try using English flints. One last thing - Uncle Mike's used to make a replacement touch hole that was bigger than what is on most factory barrels. All three of the above have given me as many as 15 first time ignitions in a row.

I do not know if you are a beginner or not. If you are not, ignore my suggestions. After shooting, I am manic about wiping down every part of the lock. I clean off the flint by wiping it off with a patch. I do the same thing to the frizzen, and the pan. I clean the touch hole after every shot, and I run a wet patch, and two dry patches after every shot. I consistently do this routine for every shot, and I do not have misfires(well rarely) and unless the flint is shot, I do not have shots where there is no spark.I do everything I can, short of giving the gun a major cleaning, to get the gun in the same condition for every shot. Some might say this is excessive, and maybe it is. But like I said, my gun shoots and fires consistently.

i use a pipe cleaner thru the touch hole between shots. I also use a little Elmers glue on the leather around the flint, then tighten the jaws as tight as possible. Let it set up before firing. When flint wears out, it will knock out when jaws are loosed. Key to good sparks is a tight flint.GO GEORGE!

All this cleaning and rotating flint, none of this is done in the movies, but you never see them having to buy ammo either, oh well that life in 2002 I quess. Happy New Years
