I have a 226 in 9mm. I love it. I can't say enough good things about it. Not one hiccup so far. I've only held the HK, though and since I have small hands, I can't reach the mag release with my thumb. You may want to pick up a Sig soon, or even consider a used one, because the prices seem to be going up, up, up.-Marcus

while going throgh the police academy i met sevral people shooting the sig 226,i shot it my self,it was a nice gun but after about 1500rds it started to stovepipe. I own a H&K USP i've had it for about 2 years and went through the acadomy and then through fire arms instructor school with it it has had well over 7,000rds and not one,NOT ONE!! malfunction,as for small hands, ive got small hands too,the trick is the H&K is completely ambidextrous, its faster and safer to use your trigger finger to release the mag.

Shoot both as much as possible!Very subjective, I have shot both own the H&K.I think the Sig feels more natural in the hand better trigger pull. The H&K seems very durable, the trigger is heavier and grittier. Both operating systems are different the Sig seem to me mmore fumble proof! Both are excellent choices the Sig is probably more accurate, Sigs are known for their accuracy. You could not go wrong with eithor choice!Shoot both then decide!Paul

I own both (my USP is a .45 though) and they are quite different, so be sure to shoot both. One big factor to consider is that the SIG (SIG is an acroynm and is properly all upper case letters) does not have a safety, so anyone picking it up can shoot it by merely pulling the trigger. I have the Variant 2 (ambidextrous safety/decock) H-K and love it.

The SIG P226 is one great shooting gun. Never owned a HK!

The SIG P-228 was my duty weapon for 18 months and I have NEVER fired a 9mm pistol that was such a pleasure to shoot. The only H&K I've ever fired was the P7M8. If the P7M8 is any reflection upon the USP, you can't go wrong with either gun as far as reliability and accuracy are concerned. Like previous posters have mentioned, it's all in personal preference. You should choose what feels most natural in your hand and what has the most comfortable trigger squeeze along with the safety features that most suit your needs. Some gun stores (like Gary's Guns in Sioux Falls, SD) let you rent guns and fire them on their ranges. Try to find one near you and buy a bunch of ammo. Pick what works best for you. The gun can be the greatest piece of workmanship that man has devised but it is worthless in the hands of someone that doesn't feel comfortable with it. Having faith in and being competent with your tools bears 99% of the choices that you will make when it comes to making decisions like this.
