Need information on Springfield 30-40 Krag
I need some information on a gun that was passed down to me. I have looked on the web and I am at a bit of a loss. Here is the information on the gun.On the receiver as follows.1894 Springfield Armory 7XX (yes, 3 digit ser)It has NO "model" before 1894It has a single fat barrel strap.I see no cartouche on the weapon. But there could have been? Stock does not appear to have been replaced, Unless it was 50+ years ago. Bore/Rifling is good. Blueing on the barrel is 85% or so. Sites do not appear to be altered. Stock has no cracks, but is very dark. Buttplate has one fold-down latch for possibly a cleaning kit. It is empty though.A very old sling is on the gun, Make you can almost not see. Appears to say "Duncan"If anybody can help me out with what I have, and what it is worth. It would be greatly appreciated.Best regards.-KcGibson

I was handed down a model 96 carbin, unfortunately some alteration had been done. (modern sight, stock cut for but pad, and a peice of stock removed from ontop of the barrel). A local gunsmith told me mine was worth $100 - $200 tops, but the last one he had in original military condition sold for $1,200. Mines an excellent shooter, hang on to it.[This message has been edited by just-shoot (edited 12-30-2001).] 0
