I am curious as to how much this bolt gun in 450 is costing you, cause if it was me, and it was costing as much as I think it will, I'd just buy a 458 Win Mag. and shoot 45-70 loads through it, since you hand load. Maybe you have a receiver and bolt that just needs to have a barrel put on it, so it wont cost too much? In that case I'd go with the barrel length of 22", becasue a 450 isnt exactly meant for long range, and the 22" would be a little lighter and not that much different in velocity, for that particular caliber, and its intended ranges. Just my 2 cents.

I bought a 300wsm Classic Laminate to use as a donor, $650 by the time I got it, $275-300 for the barrel, $ 125 more if it can be fluted at the factory, $195 for teflon coat, $300 for truing the action and installing the barrel, $65 for a coyote stock, $75 for a trigger and bed job, $105 for a removable break, $100 for steel bttom metal, reuse 300 wsm follower, spring and magazine, I am worried about the 1/8" difference in lengths of the cartridges, but time will tell, will come to about the same as The Custom Shop Model 70, but will be way more accurate, and I don't have to wait as long to get it, granted, I am probally the only person who will ever want one, but I am single and I figure I might as well get what I want and oddities have always found me somehow, I think it's my karma

Cowboy as a rule of thumb you can add or subtract 50fps for each inch added to or subtracted from barrel length.

Thanks for all the help, I am planning on going to Africa next year, I talked to my taxidermist today, he's looking into it for me, I want this Bolt gun to go with me, along side a couple of others, maybe even the H&R, I would love to take something with the H&R, that would be way to cool.

Ol` Orphan`s probably got dozens of rifles that will do the job.Half of them are probably on the $h!t list for some reason or another..like not groupin` under half an inch,no matter what he loads into them. Yeah,I think the ol` boy needs another one! .218[This message has been edited by 218Beekeep (edited 12-28-2001).]
