Depends VERY much on what gun you intend to fire it in. The loads for a Ruger # 3would turn my Trapdoor into a hand grenade. 0 -
LOOK IN THE LYMAN 47TH EDITION HAND BOOK FOR LOADS FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT RIFLES. VAST DIFERENCE IN LOADS BUT FOR REALISM TRY 70 GRAINS OF FFFG BLACK POWDER PUSHING A 405 GRAIN LEAD BULLET. USE MAGNUM PRIMERS AND ROLL THEM THOUGH YOUR LEVER ACTION AS FAST AS YOU CAN. THEN WAIT 10 MIN. FOR THE SMOKE TO CLEAR. DON'T DO THIS UNLESS YOUR ARE DOWN WIND AT THE RANGE

There are three different load levels based on the rifle that you are loading for. Level one is for original trapdoor springfields and rolling block rifles. I load these with blackpowder only. There are smokeless powder loads for these rifles but Im not familar with any. Level two is for lever action rifles like the marlin 1895 and winchester 1886. The powder I use for these is 4064 book maximum load 56 gr. for 405 gr. bullet. Unless used for hunting purposes I load mine to 52 gr. Level three is for ruger #1 or #3(if you can handle serious recoil out of this light carbine) or modern bolt action rifles. Again 4064 is the powder I use book maximum 64 gr. with 405 gr. bullet. This is a stout load not too far from .458 mag ballistics. You should always start 10% less than maximum and work your way up to max loads. If you are shooting older rifles or just for fun Id recommend shooting lighter loads than max. Hope this explains a little, let me know what bullet you want to use and I can look it up. 0 -
