I am thinking about buying a Ruger Mini 14 223 , is there any thing I should be looking for in this gun before I buy?

  Will the Ruger Mini 14 in .223 chamber and shoot 5.56 military? Or is there a Mini chambered for the 5.56?

  look at the rear of the trigger guard....there should be a little hole....also notice that the rear of the trigger guard "snaps" the trigger assembly.....the guard is actually a spring that holds the trigger assembly to the bolt assembly.......turn the rifle upside down.....slid a thick screwdriver or needle nose pliers into the hole.....slowly and gently pull on the tool in the diretion of the muzzle....you will see the trigger guard start to bend slightly and i you keep going it will pop out of its notch and the trigger gurard will swing freely on a hinge at the front of it.....then just pull it out....ryan
