One of the best guns I've ever owned. I would strongly recommend it.

Great grip, feel, balance, good barrel length, sights, great military holster gun. What makes me nervous is the thin chamber wall and the thin remaining slide thickness where the lock engages the slide. Having once come close to a 96 Mauser pistol bolt through the eye, I like to see a lot of metal in highly stressed areas.A fix for the slide would be to bridge the thin areas of the slide with high strength steel straps at least 1/16 thick.High useage Berettas should have the slides inspected periodically, preferrably by Magnafluxing.

Yep, what you said. Hogue grips, Tritium sights, and I changed the mag release button to left-hand, being left-handed. That's it.

Have to carry a centurion at work 40 cal-I really like the gun and its workings and reliability but if you have small hands it is a problem with your double action shot. I had to put Hogues on it to be able to hold it. Recently though the dept has seen error of its ways and has bought a few of the new Vertec models for us with small hands. Only problem is that Vertecs have equipment rail so now they have to buy new holsters also.Beretta is easiest gun to field strip and clean in my humble opinion.

Beretta has an answer for those who fear a slide failure. Both the Elite and Brigidier have extra metal above the locking areas on the slide. (Would V35 really try to attach a piece of metal to the slide in this area?!?! Attaching it would probably weaken the slide and encourage slide failure rather than prevent it.) Slide failures have never been a problem with the M96. The slide failure problem was with M92 pistols subjected to high round counts of very hot ammunition.

All M96 pistols (and all M92FS pistols as well - the "S" signifying the "safety" modification) have the slide modification that prevents the slide from leaving the pistol in the very unlikely event a slide should break.

I have an Elite II and it's fine. I put some orange sight paint on the front sight, but that's all it really needed. I'd swap the sights out for AOs big dot if I shot it all the time, but it's not a priority.
