If its a K-frame with adjustable sights, it is the S&W Combat Magnum, which is what they called it before they gave it the number 19.

Thanks for the quick responses! It has adj rear sight and ramp front. It also has a screw in front of the trigger guard. No Model number where the model number usually goes.

Hello ,First of all Im a S&W collector & gunsmith ,most of the info given so far is correct , heres a little more ...In the summer of 1954 Bill Jordan (BorderPatrol) asked S&W to make the .357 ...in1955 they changed from the four (4) to thethree (3) screw side-plate ..in Nov. of 1955they started making the K frame .357 "combatmagnum" , the first one was sn#K260,003 , in1956 the first sn block of 5000 was used ,(k260,000 to K265,000) for the first six months of manufacture , last sn# in 1956 wasK288,988 ...1957 - K288,989 to K317,822 ...1958 - K317,823 to K350,547 ...you can write to S&W and ask & they will give a real nice letter full of info in response (this also adds alittle to the value of the gun !!)!!!Good Luck !!! azgunnut2@yahoo.com...........
