For utility; postban .223. For investment; preban sidefolding .223, 7.62x39 or Norinco Bullpup 7.62x39.

Never buy a firearm as an "investment"--buy it because you WANT it.Very few things, whether firearms or not, appreciate in value at any rate better than money in the bank (and money in the bank is a minimal return investment). Those few things that do go up in value faster than your money would grow in a CD, normally cannot be predicted in advance--the odds are against you if you buy some "thing" expecting it to become a valuable "collectable".More specific to your question:I have a Romanian SAR-1 which I like a whole lot; but it is manufactured kind-of "roughly"--I'm thinking of adding a Bulgarian AK, or one of the high quality "American made" AK's to my "accumulation" of guns.

Take a look at the Russian VEPR before making a selection. I own a Romainian SAR 1 and found the VEPR very impressive.

If your going to buy a weapon for an investment then look at civil war weapons. These are the ones that increase the most in price. The secondary investment level are FA weapons, because no more can be made for the public. Other collector weapons are gun which have been owned by the rich and famous.Good luckHAL
