Parker Shotgun Value???
A friend just purchased an old Parker shotgun. Any help on info would be appreciated, On the inside of the forearm is stamped 7039. Stamped on barrel is "Stub Twist". Inside of receiver is stamped 5901 with F9R very small. Bottom of receiver is stamped patten Nov 18 1866 as well as Pat Mar 28 1875. It is a hammer style shot gun in 10 GA. Very plain grade. ANy help?

I don't know whether I can get away with this, but the best answer I know will come from a gentleman that posts on "antiqueguns.com".My own answer...Does your gun say "Parker Bros. Meridian, CT.? (I'm assuming it does.) If so, you're correct in assuming a low line gun. Stub is the least expensive (or one of the least expensive forms of damascus). That combined with the fact that it's a hammer gun will put the piece on the low end of the value spectrum. In reasonable condition I doubt that it'll push much beyond the $300.00 range... But I'm not a big Parker fan and the true answer might be much different due to some fact that I just don't know.Good luck! 0 -
Two things to add. This gun is in excellent condition and also a 10 Ga. It actually came with three very old 10 ga brass shot shells. 0 -
1. For value --- go to the auction section of this forum. Put # 2696408 into the search function. There is a Parker hammer gun in 10 gauge, so far NO bids on it. Watch it and you will have some idea as to value.2. Do NOT shoot this gun with modern smokeless shotshells. Will it blow up in your face - no - but the pressure curve on black powder shotshells is totally different than that on modern smokeless powder shotshells. I DO NOT CARE who tells you that you can use "low-brass" shot shells ---- they are WRONG!!!! I happen to like old Damascus barreled shot guns and I am set up to load solid brass cases as well as paper hulls in 12 gauge with black powder or a black powder substitute such as Clean Shot. I would offer to load up some 10 gauge for you if you had the brass ---- but alas I don't have the equipment to do so.3. Get in contact with MODOC -- he may have some 10 gauge black powder shotshells or know someone who does. 0 -
