The Brady Bill expires in 2004. It is my understanding that Bush has said he will renew it.

I did not know the law was up in 2004. Now knowing that I would assume that he will keep the law on the books. Way, way to politically risky to reverse the law. The old "looking out for number 1" so to speak. Being pro gun is obviously not popular on the national level. Throw high caps and assult weapons into the bag and it's political suicide. He's gotta keep the swing voters and the crats who pulled that lever for him, wanting to pull that same lever next election. Clinton went with what was popular and that was it, and it worked for him. He is finally gone so I am not gonna complain. I understand why bush will keep the law on the books(he want's to keep his job) but I just don't agree with it. I would give anything to see Heston run for president, even though he has stated he will not. Can you imagine a bunch of advisors telling Heston what to do and what not to do when it comes to gun laws LOL! Ok dream over......back to reality.

ANY gun law that is set to expire in 2004 will get renewed. IT'S AN ELECTION YEAR!

It's an election year AND Bush isn't as pro-gun as many would like to believe. He was the lesser of two evil but he did support the ban on the importation of the AK-47.

I stand corrected, it is the "assault" weapons ban. My money says it will be renewed.Darn, that's the fourth mistake I made this month

I agree with idsman75. Bush is not all that pro-gun, nor is he anti-gun. He says what he has to, to keep the NRA support and funds behind him, but did anybody happen to see that somewhat anti-gun type speech by bush that was on C-span? Speaking to a group of women of course.....gotta butter em' up. I caught it in the middle of the night one night when I could not sleep. However to his credit he did say that we should enforce the laws that are already on the books to take the guns out of the hands of criminals. This line has almost become second nature and the only people that listen to it are pro-gunners, the rest have heard that line over and over and could care less. You can not reason with them. By the way.....remember when "W's" dad gave up his lifetime membership from the NRA in protest of some of the NRA's views? For the life of me I can't remember exactly what he was protesting.

George Senior resigned the NRA for their "jack booted thugs" comment. It was George senior who ban the AK47 from import in '89.[This message has been edited by boeboe (edited 12-15-2001).]

Bush # 1 was pee-od at NRA because LaPierre referred to ATF agents as jack-booted thugs.

I always felt that the NRA should have been pro-active and terminated Bush Sr.'s membership.
