M16-A2 3 round burst mechanism question...
Was curious about the internal h/w mechanism in the A2 that allows a three round burst mode instead of full auto.Reading a PDF manual I found, it mentions holding the trigger back while pulling the charging handle back 3 times to effect a 3 round burst on the first trigger pull, prior to chambering a round. Was really curious on what the h/w mechanism is internally that does this- anyone have a good link, or a text description of the mechanism that accomplishes this?

The FA hammer has a cam on the right side.It has 3 pairs of ledges that descend in size over 180 degrees. Two set of these. The best description I know of is here http://www.ar15.com/articles/article.html?Article=51 cpermd 0 -

Your second paragraph in the first post is not based in fact.I know ARs,1911s,and M14s.cpermd 0 -
cpermd, the 3 charging handle pull instructions that got my curiousity sparked in the internal workings were from the manual below, pgs. 68-70. If you have a slow link, it may be tedious to download as it's a rather large file. http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/tm9-1005-319-10.pdf 0 -
I have a HOT link and could not find it.It does not work anyway.I have all the parts and several RRs and know.I am holding the hammer and cam right now. What page are you referring to?cpermd 0 -
Pgs. 68-70 have the 3 round burst instructions which caused my original curiousity. Oops- I should say pages 68-70 in the actual manual. The page numbers as counted by the pdf file make it pg. 108, if you are going by the PDF page count. I was looking at the actual printed page number on the bottom of each page in the manual.[This message has been edited by ED P (edited 12-20-2001).] 0
