LEUPOLD VS. BUSHNELL ELITE
I AM USING 12 GA PUMP W/ RIFFLED SLUG BARREL I WANT TO BUY A SCOPE FOR DEER HUNTING. WHICH IS BETTER LEUPOLD VARI-X II 2-7X32MM OR BUSHNELL ELITE 3200 2-7X32MM? BUSHNELL HAS A $20 REBATE ON ELITE. SO I CAN BUY THAT ONE FOR ABOUT $20 OR $30 CHEAPER! I WANT IT FOR LOW LIGHT AND DISTANCE.

I personally favor the Bushnell 4200 over either of those, but for a slug gun you don't really need anything more than 2x or 4x. Save some money and get the non-variable. 0 -
I believe Bushnell has surpassed the Vari x line. Especially when it comes to the brightness in low light conditions. You also may want to check the pricing on Pentax. There Lightseeker line is a OEM product of Bushnell. RG 0 -
There are a couple of opinions for you. In the variable, if you crank it up to 7x with a 32mm objective you get an exit pupil of just over 4mm. That is not a lot of light. You could get into a very good quality fixed power scope. Take a look at www.bearbasin.com 0 -
HEDOG has it nailed with the straight power. We are on the same page I think? The short distance capability of the "shotty" dictates the scope choice. A variable wastes time on the close up or cross by in the brush shots. I use a 4x on my crossbow because I already had it, as well as it takes no hands. Point and shoot. I have found in my experience, overpowering of the scope can be detrimental. I like to see all the details, but even when we are droppin the whitetails at 300+ we have the power dialed back. I can give you countless stories of guys who never had a chance to pull the trigger because they had the scope up too high. At least they were ethical and didn't take a foul shot. As far as the scope choice, I like the Elites better for my normal stuff. The Leupolds I have are all tactical and on more precision rifles. The lower level Leupolds are not what they are cracked up to be. Just my opinion. 0 -
The bushnell 1.5-6x36 is a great scope. It will be brighter than any leupold and probably cost less than a comparable scope made by leupold. The only thing leupold has going for is there unconditional warrenty. You can run over one of there scopes and they will replace it. Bushnell offers a limited lifetime warrenety but also offers a money back garrenty if not satisfied in the first year of use. 0 -
As previously mentioned, you do not need a variable and a fixed
2x - 4x will serve you just fine.
beerboy-you work for Bushnell as previously stated. ....the only
thing Leupold has going is their unconditional warranty. You are correct, Leupold has the best warranty!0 -
Go for the elite 4200 I have one on a 300 win Mag and have shot a lot, If I would have had a luepold on it, it would have been sent back twice for repairs 0 -

I have a 4200 Elite on my Weatherby .338-378 and it has stood up to over 400 rounds.

I have5 Leupolds on everything from a 308 to a 458 mag.Three are
vari-x11 and two are fixed. I have had one for 17 years, on a 308 Norma mag. They have been through everything Alaska has to offer without a failure.
Just my 2 cents worth.0
