Rem 700 Actions
Hi:I am in the process of building a tactical sniper rifle. I have decided to use a 700 short action. I want to make the rifle in 308. I am willing to buy a used one but I don't know which caliber I should get it in to meet my needs.

Hi:I am trying to buy a Rem. Short action to build a tactical sniper rifle in 308. Where can I get one? 0 -
I would go with the 308. Ammo is plentiful, ballistics are pretty good all the way around. Some scopes are specifically designed to compensate for bullet drop of the 308. Check the scopes on Springfield Armory web site. Probably pretty pricey though. 0 -
or the 7mm-08. little faster, little flatter and plenty of people power. 140gr balistic tip flies beautifuly. 0 -
Instead of getting a made in Japan "Springfield Armory" Scope, for the about the same money you can get a nice Leupold, Ziss, or Kahles scope, I've never heard of anyone that had a Springfield Scope for very long that was satisfied with it ... myself included. My 2nd Generation Government model 4-14X56 has been returned twice in the last 6 years. 1st time the elevation housing came loose, 2nd time the glass in the eye peice came loose ... I was using it on my Stoner (less recoil than the M1A that it was designed for!) it just wouldn't hold up!

Have had great luck with my Burris Ballistic plex.Just go to the right cross wire and pull the trigger. In fact I have two more on the way.I have mine on a 300 win mag.The 308 is a great choice for what you wont to do.
