I am in the market (this suction site) for a Schofield. There are some significant differences between the S$W (new) and the Uberti and Navy Arms. Should I save my $ and get the S&W or will the less expensive models do. It will be for occasional target shooting only, no SASS activities. Thanks in advance,Gus

gusiris,Go with the Uberti. They are fine guns and accurate for what sights are present. While the S&W is a continuation of the original (with changes), the Navy Arms and Uberti are great for the non-perfectionist, MUCH less expensive and can take .45 Colt ammo (easier to get) and also .45 S&W or .45 Russian. I've shot one at a SASS meeting and like them better than my Ruger Vacaro for fit in my hands. Of course everyone is different, so it is a good idea to attend a local SASS competition and talk with the shooters. At my club, everyone is happy to let a new person try out their equipment - it may mean a new shooter gets hooked!

Luger is correct. One additional factor is that Uberti's version is larger, boxier than S&W's.

Don't have a Schofield but got a Uberti 1873 clone, .45 Colt, 4 3/4", and in comparing it with my 2nd generation .44 Special Colt I may like the Uberti better. IMHO.

The Navy Arms gun is by far the better value and should serve your purposes just fine.
