Pet .45 ACP loads?
I'm interesting in a clean load for 230gr lead RN. I've tried Unique, No. 2, and TiteGroup powders and they all seem pretty dirty. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatedThx,tu

I have used 7.8 grains of AA5 with a 200-gr LSWC for many years with good success in several pistols and a MAC-10 full auto. Velocity from a 5" barrel is about 850 fps.Being nowhere near a maximum load, I would think it would be a good starting point with a 230-gr RN bullet. 0 -
Make that 7.3 grains of AA5...I have used it so long I didn't recall for sure. 0 -

Win 231 is a good powder for 45. 5.5 gr is a good load for the 230 gr lead bullet. 0 -
I'm with steve45 in using 5.5 grains of Win 231 powder with a 230 gr. lead bullet in .45 ACP's. I use this load in both my 45 ACP pistols with good results. I also use 231 in 38 Spec and 9 mm reloads. 0 -
I've used 231 in my .45's for so long I didn't know you could use anything else. Speer's manual gives 5 gr of 231 as a starting load for the 230 lead RN, and 5.6 as the max. I like 5 gr with 230 gr lead bullets, or 5.5 gr with 200 or 185 gr lead SCW for plinking around home and casual shooting at the range. No need to beat up your guns any more than necessary when you're just shooting for the fun of it. But if you're practicing any kind of combat type shooting I would go with the 5.6 gr so that recoil feel and point of impact will be closer to the standard factory stuff you would use in your carry gun. My guns shoot about 6-7" higher at 25 yds with my reloads than with factory 185gr HPs. 0 -

231 is a very clean powder, very little fouling after 300 rds. 0
