Winchester model 1873
I have found a Winchester Model 1873 rifle, lever action, chambered in 38cal. 38/40, with a 27-1/2" octigon barrel, S/n is 227710B. The gun appears to be in good working order in fair to good condition. What would be a fair asking price for such a gun?

Can someone please tell me if all 73 came with a cleaning rod in the stock. 0 -
It was manufactured in 1904. The average ones around these days sell for about $700. If it looks like it just came from the factory, it could easily be worth $3,850. If it's rusty, but usable, $400. Like most collectable firearms, the value often is all over the map: so much depends upon condition, special features, who owned it, and so forth. If the barrel still has any blue on it (not plum color) it may be worth over $1000. Wouldn't hurt to get an appraisal by taking it to someone who KNOWS Winchesters. Suggest you tell the appraiser it's not for sale, but you are thinking of having it insurred. Expect to pay for the person's time. 0
