Value of a pre-64 model 70
My Grandpa recently gave me a Winchester Model 70 in 30.06 which had been his father had purchased in December of 1941. There is a light scratch on the stock and some of the blueing has worn off on the bottom of the magazine door and the end of the barrel, other than that it's in excellent shape. The serial number is in the 37,000, I don't recall the rest of the markings because I took it hunting and it's still in the truck. I went to the local book store and browsed through some of the firearm price guides but I didnt see 30.06 listed. Could anyone tell me the value of this gun? Thanks,Matt[This message has been edited by 7 (edited 11-20-2001).]

Depending upon it's condition, and if it's a standard grade, it's worth around $450-750. Yes, that's a big spread. A lot depends upon the quality of the bluing on the majority of the rifle. Someone who knows Winchesters can tell you the % of factory finish remaining. If the barrel is 20", then it's worth more, but otherwise the 30-06 is about as standard as you can get. Also, be advised that quite a few m-70s have been modified by their owners, and this detracts from their cash value thou their huntability may be improved. 0 -
