WTH???!! It might be 'possible', through a combination of highly improbable conditions, to accomplish this. The range of possible results stretches from inconvenient (removing bits of brass & other debris from the action) to lethal. The widest case dimension of the 9mmP is smaller than the bore of a .40 - likely the cartridge would fly right into the bore of the barrel w/o stopping in the chamber when the slide moved forward. If by some miracle it did hang up in the chamber and the firing pin lined up well enough to actuate the primer, the case would not be supported & would fail utterly. The bullet would either bounce around like a dry pea in gutter pipe (best possible scenario) or by misalignment could (I believe) jam in the chamber or throat long enough to cause catastrophic pressure increases. I can theorize a few other possible scenarios, as well - none good. Whoever suggested this to you needs a quick reminder that the **ONLY** safe ammo for any firearm is that for which the firearm is designed. Configuration or physical variations of even a few .001" can produce disastrous results. VERY SCARY IDEA / QUESTION.

Anything is possible....but I hope you've got your affairs in order, like having your will made out, insurance paid up, say your goodbyes to family & friends......all joking aside, the .40 is a 10mm, and a 9mm is just not made to shoot in an oversized chamber. Only shoot ammo that corresponds to the proper gun and chambering. I'm glad you asked....better to find out here that have something happen to you....take care, and feel free to inquire again if you are uncertian. Don't want anyone to get hurt in the sport we all love.

All of the above are hinting that the answer is "NO".

That would be the most expensive 9mm pistol round ever...after the medical bills are totalled out and tagged to it.
Life is the leading cause of death.Everything else is just a contributing factor.

Tec,Are you talking about changing out the barrel, magazine, slide and recoil spring and doing a caliber conversion, or are you talking about running 9mm ammo through the .40 cal gun with out conversion? Yes to one, no to the other.
