LA or SA?

This is going to sound stupid but what is the largest caliber considered a short action? And the smallest caliber considered a long action?[This message has been edited by jeeper86 (edited 11-14-2001).]

  I would guess the new Short magnums would qualify as the largest in short action, but I have a Winchester pre '64 long action that came factory in .243, I wouldn't know about the actual smallest

  The longest I know of that will fit in a SA Rem 700 is the 6mm Rem.I bet there are longer ones.

  Isn`t the .308 win a short action round..it is the same length as the .243 Win.and shorter than the 6mm Rem..218

  A long long time ago the Winchester Model 70 was chambered for the 22 Hornet on the short side and the 375 H&H Mag on the long end.

  If asking largest then the 350 Rem Mag in a 7 or 600 would be close.I may have misread and thought longest.You can bet your bottom $$ that you will soon see the new short mags in several short action guns.cpermd
