Mosin Nagan Information As Promised
The following for all of you military oldie shooters and collectors. The following flyer was received from Ms.Mona Sawyer of Ellett Bros. 1-800-845-3711, ask for ext. 3505. As far as I know Ellett Bros. sells only to dealers with established accounts, but lacking that you can probably find out where your nearest dealer is that will handle these. O.K.--here goes:FACT SHEET ON AZTEC's MOSIN-NAGANT RIFLES & CARBINESThe Russian Mosin Nagant Rifles & Carbines which we have imported were "arsenaled" at the end of World War II and put into clean storage in a salt tunnel in the Ural Mountains. Storage in a salt tunnel eliminates rust or corrosion as there is 0% humidity in this environment.Just as the U.S. Government went through their stocks of M-1 Garands and M-1 Carbines, putting them into perfect conditon at the end of the war--so did the Russians with their Mosin Nagants.All of the guns we have imported are considered Grade I collecor's Grade, as they have matching numbers including those on the bolt and receiver. They have never been issued to troops and were kept for "Ready Emergency Use" by the Russian Government. In the case of the 91/30 models, even the bayonet has a number matching the receiver of the rifle. The bayonets for the model 1944 are not numbered to the gun individually as they eliminated this for this model.Each model is packaged with an "Accessory Pack" which includes items issued with the rifles or carbines. Unissued bayonet with serial number matching that of the rifleb.Unissued "dog collar" slingc.Unissued solvent/oil bottled.Unissued belt double cartridge pouchThese rifles and carbines were manufactured at one of several Russian Arsenals. The dates vary but are mostly wartime production. Some of the model 1891/30's were maufactured prior to World War II.Unlike some Russian Mosin Nagants recently imported these rifles and carbines were never wrapped individually in paper or cloth which has been detrimental to the metal and wood finish. THESE RIFLES AND CARBINES ARE PRISTEEN. No harmful effects are present due to long term storage. Bores and chambers are perfect. Headspace has been check and rechecked on each rifle.These Rifles & Carbines use the time honored 7.62x54R cartridge which is still being manufacutred after 110 years of service. Thanks for passing that along. I shot an antelope at about 150 yards with one. The french verson.I heard, correct me if I'm wrong, that there are 13 different variations of the mosin Nagan 7.62X54 rifle and carbines. 0 -
I honestly don't know how many variations there are, but they were made in Russia, Switzerland, France, the U.S., China, Hungary, Romania, and Poland. (Did I miss any?) I'm not sure if the Bulgarians actually made them, or just cut them down. There are numerous model variations--covered pretty well in "For Collectors Only, The Mosin-Nagant Rifle" by Terence W. Lapin, North Cape Publications. I ordered one of the 91/30 rifles from Ellett Bros. to find out for myself, buy as we are on opposite sides of the Country it will be a few days before I can report. I am assured that they are unbelieveably nice. 0
