How does one get a Lyman Mould, anyhow?
I know Lyman makes a huge line of casting moulds, but thier webpage says nothing about ordering, nor does it give all of the moulds made. Is there a dealer, or a place to get a catalog where I can find out just what they have?

ah HA! Now see, the links you provide illustrate my problem PERFECTLY! A whole mess of pistol bullets are listed, but when I click to continue to the next page, no more moulds are listed; I want to get a list of current rifle bullet moulds. Even ammo depot, midway, etc don't list all their moulds. Lyman's cast bullet handbook lists something like 300 moulds in it; granted not all are of current manufacture, but many are- more than the above retailers carry. So again, I ask, where does one get the remaining moulds?!

Jonk - Obtain a copy of the catalog & order as per cpermd Rx. If you look at the web page, it was last updated (never completed) several years ago. Lyman doesn't seem to be doing so well. 0 -
Jon, Iconoclast is right on target; you can also check out Dave Gullo's website: www.buffaloarms.com , he is a also a black powder rifle cartridge shooter of great repute. Besides that, he runs a complete shooter's supply business (BP and old/obsolete) specializing in brass, moulds, accessories, cast bullets, dies, etc. Very helpful guy to know. 0 -
Lyman's customer service is not the best.My advice is have your dealer get their catalog and order what you want.They do make some good molds.cpermd 0 -
Hey Guy Take a look at RCBS Molds they have a life time warrenty, I use a lot of them and some times you get one that just wont cast, it's nice to send it back and have it fixed or replaced fer FREE 0 -
Lyman's complete CURRENT line of molds is listed in such places as buffalo Arms, Midway, Garr, and so forth, but the vast majority of the lyman/Ideal molds are out of production. Most people don't have any idea of the hundreds and hundreds of different types that were made. Western Bullet Company at one time had the list on their site, but it disappeared several years ago: probably just too expensive to maintain. The only way to get an old Ideal/Lyman mould is to haunt the Auction sites and hope one you want comes up. But, they seem to go for very respectable prices these days.Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook, the one printed prior to 1974, shows some of the profiles of some of these moulds. Also, some of the older Ideal/Lyman loading books give profiles and loading data. Lyman itself is not interested, apparently, in visiting old ground, and this has permitted several speciality mould companies to fill the void. It is these places, as well as RCBS and LEE, where you may want to become familiar. Pick up a copy of Handloader's Digest to take a look at it's "Mold" section to see all that is currently available in tn subject area. 0 -

Well, I am looking- pursuant to firing the rifle and finding it works and slugging the bore- for a source of cheap bullets for the 7.35 Carcano, in .298-.301 range. I don't care who makes the mould, but the Lyman Cast bullet Handbook lists loads for this caliber, with one of their molds. I have several bullet molds already, by Lyman, Lee, and Challenger; some Lee molds I really like, but others won't fill out or won't release; though this doesn't seem to affect accuracy a whole lot. I'm thinking of trying resizing standard .308 bullets first, before investing in pricey alternatives; the worst that can happen, if diamater is right, is poor accuracy.
