this is not uncommon. how often does a new car actually sell at the sticker price? there is, what is known among retailers, a "street price." this is what the stores are really charging for items despite what the msrp may be.
    i never make misteakes.

CHECK THE PRICES ON THE AUCTION.THAT WILL TELL YOU AT WHAT PRICE THE GUNS SELL.

The FFL I use for transfers will order new firearms for me at cost+10% plus tax. That is a street price and below most local dealers. BUT the big guys like WallyWorld and KMart buy in such volume and get such significant price breaks they can often sell below what a small dealer buys for.

I'll bet your 870 ia Express not a Wingmaster. The Express is a cheaper version without the high gloss blue or fancy wood. This would fit the price you paid.

Duckhunter: The auctions are one of the worst places, from my experience, to find deals.Due to the fact that there's always gonna be some schmuck with no experience in gun-buying who will gladly bid $100-150 MORE than the MSRP, there will always be sellers charging too much and just hoping for that one schmuck to wander along.350RemMag, as for my shotgun, I have a Rem. 870 Express Mag. MSRP cost on the Remington website: between $350-$400.Price I paid: $299.99. And I probably could have found lower if I looked hard.Absolutely ridiculous.

I believe they do this in order to give dealers more leeway in determining how much to sell for. In my experience MSRP is usually 30-40% higher than what you can actually find them for.

I am a gun dealer with a store front and open 7 days a week to make a living. I will tell you right now that 90-95 % of the new guns sold today are sold not even close to MSRP.Usually 10-15 % over cost is the norm sometimes even less if I have to beat the MARTS or "joe blow" down the road with an FFL dealing out of his trailer who sells everything at wholesale plus a 12 pack. Sometimes with hard to find items you can get retail. I really dont know why the manufacturers list the MSRP's so high though.[This message has been edited by MFI (edited 11-09-2001).]
