Is this the one which looks like the Browning a-5? If so, all you do is flip the gas ring inside the forearm over. One way is light, the other is heavy.

Assemble first; the spring, then the forend, next the washer with cone forward for heavy loads and rearward for light loads, next the friction brake, then the barrel and the end cap. Adjust so the barrel extension is about flush with the receiver. Back the nut off a few clicks if a failure to feed occurs.DO NOT OIL THE MAGAZINE TUBE or you will kill off the braking action and split the forend. An easy way to remember it is that when the barrel taper alone acts on the brake it clamps it with half the force (light loads)and when the washer taper also acts on the brake it doubles the braking force(heavy loads).
