Herters .357 question
I have a Herters 357 single action "Colt clone". It appears to be made in Germany. Does anyone have any other info about these guns? I would appreciate it.RG

Found a maker name "Schmidt Ostheim/Rhoen. Know anything about them? The gun seems to be machined very well. I think my Dad bought it in the late 60's. 0 -
I think they are the same as Hawes or J.P. Sauer (sp?). Good strong guns worth up to $300 on the high end, $100 on the low end. Good $200 gun. 0 -
I have two Herter .401 Powermags (Rimmed 10m/m mags.) and they are made by J.P Sauer and Sons West Germany. But the guns are only marked made in West Germany.

Herbert Schmidt (maker), Ostheim/Rhoen (location), at that time in West Germany. As far as I know still in business. Herter's models were good guns. Some others, like the Buffalo Scout, a single action .22 with an alloy frame, were so-so. Many of Hawes revolvers were made by Sauer, but the companies are not the same. 0 -
Thank you gentlemen for your help. Hopefully I will be able to return the favor. RG 0
